Balloon Sinuplasty

Are You A Candidate For Balloon Sinuplasty?

Treating Chronic Nasal Congestion
Chronic nasal congestion is a common complaint seen at our practice. When symptoms of facial pain and pressure, congestion, difficulty breathing or other common symptoms persist for three months or longer, the diagnosis is often chronic sinusitis. Medical treatments such as decongestants, steroids, antibiotics, or mucous thinning drugs are the first course of action. When those treatments are ineffective, patients with chronic sinusitis now have an alternative treatment option to conventional surgery. Called Balloon Sinuplasty (BSP), the minimally invasive procedure is performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting.

What is BSP?
Conventional sinus surgery removes bone and tissue to enlarge the sinus opening. With balloon sinuplasty, a less invasive approach is used to enlarge the natural opening of the sinuses without removing bone or tissue.

The procedure includes:
Step 1 - A guide wire and balloon catheter are inserted into the inflamed sinus
Step 2 - The balloon is slowly inflated to expand the sinus opening
Step 3 - Saline is sprayed into the infected sinus cavity to flush it out
Sep 4 - The system is removed, leaving the sinuses open
Clinical research confirms that BSP provides long-term relief from sinus symptoms by effectively opening blocked sinus passageways.
